Polwarth Parish Church borders the canal, and the congregation is part of a group of "Canal Adopters" committed to supporting canal conservation. As part of this commitment, the self-styled "Kirk on the Canal" has developed a garden on the canal bank adjacent to the church. Photographic evidence of an earlier boathouse on the site has also led to permission being granted for a mooring. The Polwarth Canal Garden and church gardens are open to the public.
