This is the only hydraulic bridge on the Union Canal. It lifts the road for boats to pass underneath and pedestrians can cross over the footbridge when it is raised. It was built to replace a wooden bridge further west on the canal. It was then moved here in 1922 to replace another wooden bridge when the original basins were infilled and Lochrin Basin became the new terminus.
