This aqueduct carries the canal over the Edinburgh City bypass and is named after the navel engineer John Scott Russell. He discovered the Soliton or solitary wave on the canal near Hermiston, close to here. The aqueduct was completed in 1987, significantly ahead of the full funding for the Millennium Link being secured to restore the entire canal. It was seen as a leap of faith.
